INTRODUCTION
So long story short I missed the first class of Game
Development on September 26 due to some personal reasons and I received a
notification on my teams by Lecturer Ronald Chua mentioning that we
individually should come out with game ideas as well as our first game
pitch, and on the following week "Lucky" students will be picked to do a 10
minute presentation of their idea or ideas, and we were asked to submit our
game pitch and ideas through our blog post by latest 11:59pm on 2nd
October.
At first I was pretty lost as I've missed the class and I
have no Idea what is going on and I have literally zero idea what is a
game pitch as well I thought it was something like a prototype or
something to our ideas, so I went and search online and got some help from
Chat GPT to create my proposal but until the very moment I submit this
assessment I'm still not sure whatever I've done is it really what
Lecturer Ronald asked for in the class.
So after gathering my thoughts on what's need to be done I
started with brainstorming ideas on what game I'd like to do, loads of ideas
came to my mind when I start the brainstorming but after a period of time I
recalled that Lecturer Ronald also mentioned to us that we should know our
limitations so I narrowed it all down and tried to make them simple so that
I will be able to cope with whatever idea I came up with myself.
So below is the proposal I have prepared for week 2's presentation:

So after showing our proposal to Mr. Ronald, I gotten my
feedback and due to my mother's condition I still missed Week 2 class and
I changed my timetable to Tuesday so that I'm able to join the class
rather then missing on more classes.
So on Week 3 which is October 7th, only I noticed that
Mr. Ronald actually have an individual assessment for us which is to
create our own individual asset or experiment on blender so that we have
something to show on today's class. But unfortunately I did not check my
teams until I reached the class, so I missed out on the whole thing,
giving a bad image to everyone on my first class.

Nevertheless, the class was still fun for me as I get
to see all my other colleagues to show their progress and I also get
to know how far have everyone gotten after I've missed these 2
classes. After watching everyone's work I feel amazed at everyones
work especially the girl with the water animation with the game where
a Capybara falls into the water and there is a crocodile there. The
water she created moves at such smooth frames it feels like real
water, and the other one I have a impression on was the guy I chose
who sat behind me he created a star wars space ship it was amazing for
a student who have not touched blender before this.
So after me being picked in the class for
presentation, and after giving my explanation I was told to catch up
to the class as well as submit at least something on my blog so that
I get some points for the self assessment. So I went ahead and
experimented on Blender. At first I was thinking on what to create
but I have not really made my mind on which game idea I'm going to
be working on, so I decided to just create a small cozy room.
So it took me quite some time to get used to the
controls on Blender cause I've never used it before and also cause
I didn't bring my mouse with me to campus today so I did
everything with mousepad and the controls were a little bit
confusing at first but I got used to it and it felt better way
later.
Firstly I started with deleting everything in the project
where I pressed A and pressed X to delete everything, not gotta lie its my
first time using X button to delete stuff so it's quite refreshing
learning all the new stuff. After deleting everything I inserted my own
plane, and I added two modifiers for my plane which is "Solidify" and
"Bevel", Solidify is added to make the flat 2D plane into something that
contains thickness, which essentially makes it a 3D object and Bevel is
used to smooth or round up the sharp edges.
Fig 1.1, Plane and walls
After adding thickness to my wall I checked on its
balance and when I got to the top view as shown below we can see
that the wall is not balance its cramping inside.
Fig 1.2, Uneven Wall
So I went to the solidify modifier and noticed that I
can actually check the even thickness to make the walls balance so
that there wont be any cramping ins or out.
Fig 1.3, After checking Even Thickness
After all that I continued with the wall, I went into
edit mode with "Tab" and created some loop cut in the middle with
"Ctrl+R" and beveled it with "CTRL+B"
Fig 1.4, Loop Cut & Bevel on Wall
When I'm done with the bevel and loop cut I used "3"
for the selection and used "Alt+Left click" on the faces to select
them and used "Alt+E" to extrude faces along normals and added Bevel
modifier to them as well.
Fig 1.5, 3 & Alt+Left Click
Fig1.6, Alt+E for extrude faces along normals
After all that I'm trying to make the walls to look more
fun rather than just plain flat walls so I wanted to "Shift+D" to
duplicate the thin layer and "E" it out to make it look like a frame but
I keep failing whenever I "Shift+D" and when I wanna scale it or move it
the original layer and the duplicated layer just seem to be together as
shown below.
Fig 1.7, Duplicated & Ori Layer
It took me sometime to figure it out, I tried few
times, apparently it's something I did wrongly when I duplicated the
layer, but after I did it calmly and correctly the layers are
duplicated and I get to move and scale only he duplicate layer without
moving the ori layer away. And I got to make my picture frames on the
wall.
Fig 1.8, Picture frames on wall
So after this part I'm starting to feel more at ease as
I'm starting to get used to the controls and It's starting to feel
more excitement and fun at doing this 3D model. So after this part its
mostly repeating the same stuff add plane, scale, G to move them, P to
seperate the selection and adding modifiers etc. so I didn't really
take any pictures for the progress. but below is how the whole thing I
have at the end of this exercise.
So I actually wanted to do more, I wanted to add air
conditioner, some plants and also a table lamp but, I don't have
enough time to do, so I stopped here but I am happy with what I have
now with the short amount of time before the submission. I actually
tried doing the Table lamp I needed to press "O" to get into the
proportional tool and I wanted to just press down the top of the UV
Sphere I'm using as the base but after few tries I still don't get
it then I stopped doing it thinking to take it back up another
time.
Fig 1.9, Final at the end of exercise
Today, I've also consulted with Mr. Ronald on my ideas
the feedback I got is I can proceed with Idea 1 and 3 which is the
Rage game and the narrative game. For the Rage game it would be a 3D
modeling game as for Idea 3 it would be a 2D platform game, Mr. Ronald
told me that both these are doable but idea 2 is too hard as the
physics as well as the traps and movements would take up alot of time.
As for Idea 3 the 2D platform one I'll just need to make sure that I'm
not choosing it because it is an easy escape and I'll need to make
sure that I draw all the characters as well as UIs and maps on my own
AI generated one wouldn't be happily accepted.
